Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a visa? Canadian citizens do not need a tourist visa to travel to Serbia for stays up to 90 days. Just bring a valid passport.

Is the tap water safe to drink? The tap water is safe to drink in all major Serbian cities. Belgrade’s tap water is perfectly fine. As a precaution, you may want to drink bottled water if you have a sensitive stomach, but most locals drink tap water without issue. We would not recommend drinking the tap water in Klenje

Are children welcome? Yes! Children are welcome at the ceremony and reception. Golubac Fortress has a family-friendly “Green Zone” accessible to all ages. Please let us know on your RSVP if you’re bringing little ones so we can plan accordingly.

What if I miss the shuttle? If you miss the Friday morning shuttle or arrive late, private car transfers from Belgrade to Golubac cost approximately €120–150. Contact us and we’ll help arrange it.

What should I wear to the church? Please dress respectfully. Shoulders should be covered (bring a shawl or light jacket). No shorts for men. Women may need to cover their hair — bring a scarf just in case. We’re confirming specific requirements with the church and will update this page.

What’s the dress code for the reception? Summer formal. Expect temperatures of 30°C+ (86°F) in August, so light fabrics are your friend. Gentlemen, a linen suit or dress shirt without a jacket is perfectly acceptable.

Is Serbia safe? Yes. Serbia is safe for tourists. Belgrade is a vibrant European capital with low crime rates. Use normal precautions — watch your belongings, don’t flash expensive items — and you’ll be fine.

Do people speak English? In Belgrade, many people do — especially in hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas. In Golubac, English is less common, but you’ll manage. Locals are friendly and patient.

What about gifts? Your presence is our gift. Truly. If you’d like to contribute to our next chapter together, we’ll have more details closer to the wedding. Please don’t feel obligated — flying to Serbia is gift enough.

What’s the Wi-Fi situation? Belgrade hotels have good Wi-Fi. In Golubac, expect decent but slower connections. If you need reliable mobile data, buy a local SIM card or use an eSIM (see our Good to Know page).

How do I get from the Belgrade airport to my hotel? Options include:

  • Taxi / CarGo app: ~2,500–3,500 RSD ($35–50 CAD), 30–45 minutes depending on traffic
  • A1 Airport Shuttle Bus: Runs to the city center, 400 RSD ($5 CAD)
  • Hotel transfer: Some hotels offer pickup; check when booking

What’s the time difference? Serbia is on Central European Time (CET):

  • 6 hours ahead of Toronto (Eastern Time)
  • 9 hours ahead of Vancouver (Pacific Time)

Can I extend my trip and travel elsewhere? Absolutely. Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport has direct flights to destinations across Europe — Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, Italy, and more. Many guests use weddings like this as a jumping-off point for a longer trip.
