Love on the Danube
We are overjoyed to invite you to our wedding in the beautiful Serbian countryside! We hope you’ll be able to join us for this once in a lifetime opportunity to celebrate our love, but also experience Eastern Europe in a way that is off the beaten path.
We know we’re asking you to travel far. Some of you will cross an ocean; others will navigate unfamiliar roads and a new alphabet. We’ve built this website to guide you through every step, from landing in Belgrade to finding your seat at our table. Pack your bags for an adventure. We promise it will be worth the journey.
You’ll begin your adventure in Belgrade, a city of Roman fortress walls and floating river bars, where Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian history collide and the nightlife runs until dawn. Spend the day exploring Belgrade, then join us as we travel to Eastern Serbia for the wedding ceremony and reception, near the border of Serbia where the Danube River crosses into Romania. The wedding ceremony will take place in Klenje, a place close to Sasha’s heart, as it is the village where her mother was born. The party will then move a short drive away to Golubac, a medieval fortress town at the entrance to the Iron Gates gorge, where we will celebrate with a stunning view of the Danube River.
We are so grateful to have such incredible family and friends supporting us as we take the next step in becoming husband and wife. Thank you for your love and support, we hope to see you at our wedding!
Join Us
Schedule of Events
We understand that arranging hotels and transportation in a country where you don’t speak the language can be daunting, so we have decided to cover wedding-related transportation and accommodation for guests who are not Serbian. This coverage will include:
- the shuttle bus
- from Belgrade to Golubac
- from Golubac to Klenje
- from Klenje back to Golubac
- from Golubac back to Belgrade
- two nights of accommodation (August 7th and 8th – see below)
- a tour of the Golubac Fortress.
Regarding your overall trip to Serbia, you will be responsible for your flight to and from Belgrade, as well as your accommodation while in Belgrade and beyond.
Friday, August 7 — Arrival Day
Time: 10:00 AM
Event: Shuttle Departs Belgrade
Detail: Be on time — the bus leaves sharp from our central pickup location (TBA). The drive to Golubac takes approximately two hours.
Time: 12:00 PM
Event: Check-in at Golubac
Detail: Check into your rooms and settle in. Take a breath. You made it.
Time: 3:00 PM
Event: Group Tour of Golubac Fortress
Detail: We’ll explore the medieval fortress together. Easy walking, accessible to all ages. Wear comfortable shoes.
Time: 6:00 PM
Event: Dinner at Leisure
Detail: The evening is yours. We recommend strolling the Danube promenade and trying one of the local restaurants — Zlatna Ribica (The Golden Fish) or Svilen Konac (The Silk Thread) are great options for traditional Serbian food and Danube views.
Saturday, August 8 — The Wedding
Time: 10:30 AM
Event: Shuttle Departs for Klenje
Details: All guests board the bus from Golubac to the village of Klenje, a short drive into the countryside.
Time: 11:00 AM
Event: Arrival at Baka’s House
Details: All Serbian weddings begin at the family’s household. We will begin with a traditional Serbian wedding welcome and a few Serbian wedding traditions before a short 5 minute walk to the church.
Time: 12:00 PM
Event: Church Ceremony
Details: We will be married at the Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos — the same church where Sasha was baptized as a child.
Time: 1:00 PM
Event: Cocktail Reception
Details: Join us in the garden at Baka’s house for drinks, appetizers, and music.
Time: 4:00 PM
Event: Shuttle Returns to Golubac
Details: Head back to your accommodation to freshen up and rest before the evening celebration.
Time: 6:00 PM
Event: Wedding Reception
Details: Dinner and dancing at Restaurant Marija, overlooking the Danube. This is the main event — come hungry and ready to celebrate.
Sunday, August 9 — Departure
Time: 12:00 AM
Event: Shuttle Departs for Belgrade
Details: We return to the capital together. From there, you’re free to continue exploring Serbia or begin your journey home.
The event will generally follow the above schedule, but please note that times are subject to slight changes and will be updated closer to the event.
